For Pet Owners

How do I book a walk?

In the app, go to your pet's profile and tap "Add Walk." Choose your walker, the day of the week, pickup address, and duration. Walks recur weekly — your walker's daily route plan is generated automatically.

Can I track my dog during a walk?

Yes. Once your walker marks your dog as "picked up," you can tap the live tracking button to see their GPS location in real time. Location updates stream every few seconds via server-sent events.

How does the custody chain work?

Every time your pet changes hands — pickup, dropoff, delegation, boarding check-in — an entry is added to an append-only custody log. This log cannot be edited or deleted, giving you a complete, tamper-proof audit trail.

How do I cancel a walk?

Go to your pet's profile and tap "Cancel Walk" for the specific date. You can cancel any time up to 1 hour before the scheduled walk. If you cancel inside your walker's cancellation window (typically 24 hours), a late cancellation fee may apply.

Can I have multiple walkers?

Yes. You can set up recurring walks with different walkers on different days. Each walk appears as a separate schedule entry, and you'll receive separate invoices from each walker.

How does boarding work?

Your walker can offer boarding stays. You book through the app with check-in and check-out dates. Billing is per night with a 1-hour grace period before the next day is charged. The same custody tracking applies throughout the stay.

For Dog Walkers

How do I sign up as a walker?

Download the app and register with the "walker" role. You'll create a profile with your bio, service area (as a map region), rate per walk, and availability. You can add credentials like pet insurance, bonding, and first aid certification.

How are my routes planned?

LeashLink automatically generates a route plan for each day based on your recurring walks. At 10 PM the night before, your stops are materialized into a daily plan. You can then optimize the stop order using HERE Maps or Google for the most efficient route.

What if I can't make a walk?

Use the delegation feature to hand stops or boarding stays to another walker. You set the offered amount and the platform fee is calculated automatically. The receiving walker accepts or declines, and custody transfers happen atomically if accepted.

Can I work with a manager?

Yes. LeashLink supports a manager role that can oversee a team of walkers. Managers can view and adjust route plans for their team members, and have the same walking capabilities as regular walkers.

How do I set my rates?

Your default rate per walk is set in your walker profile. When owners book walks with you, this rate applies. You can also negotiate custom rates for individual owners. Boarding stays have a separate per-night rate.

Payments & Billing

How does billing work?

Invoices are generated automatically every Monday morning covering the previous week's walks and boarding stays. Each walk and boarding night is a separate line item. Walkers can review and send invoices to owners, who pay via the app.

How do walkers get paid?

Walkers connect a Stripe Express account during onboarding. When an owner pays an invoice, the payment flows through Stripe Connect — the platform fee is retained and the walker's earnings are deposited directly to their bank account.

What happens with late cancellations?

Each walker sets a cancellation window (default: 24 hours). If an owner cancels inside this window, the walk is flagged as a late cancellation and the full walk fee still appears on the next invoice. This protects walkers from last-minute schedule disruptions.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. All payments are processed through Stripe, an industry-leading payment processor. Your card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never touch LeashLink's servers. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified.

Safety & Trust

How do I know my pet is safe?

LeashLink provides multiple safety layers: live GPS tracking during walks, push notifications at pickup and dropoff, an immutable custody log, and photo updates from your walker. You always know where your pet is and who has them.

Are walkers verified?

Walkers can add credentials to their profile: pet insurance, bonding, first aid certification, and background checks. Each credential can be marked as verified by a manager. You can view a walker's credentials and reviews before booking.

Can walkers delete or edit custody records?

No. The custody log is append-only by design. Once a record is written (pickup, dropoff, delegation, etc.), it cannot be modified or deleted. This ensures a complete, tamper-proof history of your pet's custody chain.

How long is location data retained?

GPS location pings are retained for 90 days, after which they are automatically purged. Custody log entries are retained indefinitely as part of the permanent audit trail.
